Little Surfer Girl

I've been procrastinating on creating this post for weeks now. I'm not really sure what to say except that there was about a month there that Eden was REALLY into surfing. Every chance she got she would ask us to take her surfing, and every chance we got we would take her. Her passion seemed to fizzle as abruptly as it began but while it was in motion - it was beautiful - in a blinding light of a shooting start sort of a way. And to be honest we are relieved that she has given it a break for the last couple of weeks since we are going to Kauai next week and we didn't want her to be so completely over it by then. As it is, when we ask her what the first thing she wants to do in Kauai is - she tells us that she wants to go surfing at Hanalei. There are a lot of pictures in this post from the various surf spots that Eden padled out at over the course of about a month. Her favorite two were T street and Doheny with Doheny being a clear favorite in the end. We will see what Kauai brings whether she is into it or over it while we are there....

T Street

This is the beach Jonny grew up going to. We have lived in San Clemente almost 6 years now and Eden was the first Walla to take me there. And now, to Jon's dismay, neither of his girls can quite get enough.

Doheny/Doho

These pics are from our first ever family paddle out. This is something we have dreamed about for quite some time now and finally it became a reality. it was such a special evening, one that I will never forget.
Eden had so much fun on the family paddle out that she begged me to take her back the next day. Zi and I went out with her for a bit, but after a while she asked us to just go to the beach. She wanted to be out there by herself. It was kind of sad and lonely to sit and watch her on the beach with the cool night air rolling in, Zi and I wondering when she would ever be done...as she caught wave, after wave, after wave, entirely on her own.
These are from another Doho day - this time with Dad in tow.
Another day at Doho - below are Eden and Jon on a wave together. Such a special moment for Jon.
On this day Eden surfed for about 4 hours straight. This is a picture of Eden alone in that giant crowd of surfers. It was really stressing Jon and I out that she was out there all by herself but we could not get her to come in for the life of us. She was just having too much fun!

Doho Drive By

Eden had been begging Jon for weeks to take her out on one of his dawn patrol surf sessions, and a couple of weeks ago he finally conceded. I was heading up to a conference in Costa Mesa the same day so I drove by Doho on a whim on my way up. It was so fun to drive by and see the kids surfing and having so much fun with Jon who is truly the best dad ever!
All three paddling out
Another of the three paddling out.
Eden on a wave on the left and Jon and Zi paddling out on the right. Same for the next two pics.
