Parting Shots

Here are a few parting shots, although I am sure we will post more later.

Eden Surfing

Kauai

Kauai was amazing and we are all really happy that we went. Up till the night before we left it just did not seem meant to be, but once we got there we knew we were right where we were supposed to be, and now we are hooked. I think we will lie, cheat, and steal every year from now on just to make it work so that we can go back...it was just that much fun. The highlight for Jon were the double overhead perfect barrels, the highlight for Eden was playing at the beach all day every day in warm water, and the highlight for me was the snorkeling. My favorite beach to snorkel and hang out at was Tunnels Beach. There is just such a wide variety of fish and sea life there. The fish are all different shapes and sizes and they come in a variety of colors you never knew existed. Not only do fish hang out there but turtles, octopus', sharks, and monk seals too. The day we left Jon and I went out for one last snorkel; I really wanted to swim with one last turtle before we left. However, the day before while snorkeling there were a lot of reef sharks about. They were beautiful to see but quite intimidating as they were at least 5-6ft long. It was early in the morning when we went for our snorkel on that last day, Jon went first, but he did not see any turtles. Then it was my turn and I swam around for a while without seeing a turtle and finally decided to go in because the water felt a little too sharky so early in the morning without anyone else in the water. As I was coming in, Jon yelled at me that there was a big turtle right where I had just been diving. So I kicked back over to look for the big turtle. I did not find a turtle, instead I came face to face with a 4 or 500lb monk seal. I hadn't seen any seals in Kauai up until then and had never seen a seal quite like this one so it gave me quite a fright. As it turns out it was such a fortunate experience as there are only about 1,100 monk seals in all of the Hawaiian islands combined. I am in awe of God and His handiwork. He has given us such a beautiful earth to explore, His face shines through all I have seen. Here are a few pics from the trip. Next time we will have to bring an underwater camera.

Baja this year was magical as always. We were very fortunate to have perfect weather and waves the entire time. It was a little bit more challenging for me because of the new pregnancy and the nausea that has ensued, but Jon took such exceptional care of Eden and I, that the nausea was bearable and I was able to enjoy the trip.

Once we got home life was crazy again with me working a ton and Eden and I getting insanely sick. It makes the memories of the trip all that much more special. We savor those moments all year when life is so simple - nothing more than sitting on the beach and having fun.

Is there a mustache in mexico?

A few of the days down in baja this year were foggy and humid so everything Eden touched stuck to her like glue. She rocked this little sand mustache during every minute of that fog.
