We probably went to Tunnels almost every day. We certainly went there every chance we got. For the first portion of the trip, the water was crystal clear. Some of the best snorkeling we have seen in years. Jon has some beautiful GoPro footage of swimming through the "tunnels" with white tipped reef shark, and some incredible pics and video of so many turtles. It was rad because the kids got to see a lot of sea life this year. In fact the first day that Eden went snorkeling a white tipped reef shark swam right by she and Jon. She said "Daddy, what was that?!" He said "Smiley Shark" and she said "Daddy, I want to go in right now!" I am jealous because I never did get to see one of the reef shark that close up this trip.
Below I have posted at least 1,000 pics of the kids surfing the little ripples that came in at this spot. I can not put into words how on fire Zi was in this setting. So much so that I have just about come to the conclusion that he is not in his true form unless he is in the water. In all other settings he seems to be in a bit of a funk, but in the water he truly shines.
You can't surf like Zi without getting in a little yoga on the side. |
This is one of my all-time favorite pics! So classic! |
This one too! They had the full-on cheering squad! |
We arrived at the beach with quite the posy - just look at all those big kids! |
The kids were in heaven with all these big kids giving them attention! |
Kerry taught us how to make these awesome sand turtles.
One day Eden brought her homework to the beach. I think she sincerely was a bit bummed to be missing so much school, especially after she had just gotten into the swing of things. Anyway, this bring your homework to the beach, was such a classic Eden thing to do.
We never did get a great Tunnels day with Tara and Mimmi which was pretty sad. This was on their first day with us. You can't really tell from the pics but it was pouring rain and the water was rough. They did get to see a turtle floating in the ankle deep water this day though so that was cool.
On our second to last night we jetted down to Tunnels with the Castle fam for a sunset snorkeling sesh. The snorkeling wasn't amazing but we got to see a ton of fish and a few turtles which was such a treat to share with Mimmi and our friends.
